Butcher Babies are back! (Lilith Album Review)

2017 brings us Butcher Babies third full-length album, and it does not disappoint. If they did not have you hooked like a crack whore in Sunny Slope already, chances are "Lilith" will change your mind.

"Historically, Lilith has become demonized as a representation of promiscuity and disobedience. We, however, see her as a positive figure. A symbol of autonomy, sexual equality and full control over our own destiny." - Heidi

"Sensuality, lust, danger and power. We kept going back to Lilith. We researched Lilith and her origins in different cultures and forms and knew that figure, once feared but now a beautiful, symbolic middle finger to repression, would be a perfect representation of our album." - Carla

2017 brings us Butcher Babies third full-length album, and it does not disappoint. If they did not have you hooked like a crack whore in Sunny Slope already, chances are "Lilith" will change your mind.

The album kicks into high gear with the heavy and thrashy "Burn The Straw Man" followed up with the title track "Lilith", which is pure fury at it's best. Que "Headspin", a surprisingly melodic gem that allows these two beauties to showcase their true vocal talent. Underrated as vocalists, they can go from shredding screams and growls to putting you at ease in matter of one verse. “Korova” opening with an organ before chilling vocals and brutal screams is one of the best songs on the album, while “The Huntsman” is a Butcher Babies version of Little Red Riding Hood done unlike any other band can do. It's eerie, sexy and downright kicks ass, while the story makes Red Riding Hood the villain. Through all 11 tracks, even during the darker, more melodic parts, the second half of Lilith is highlighted by cuts including “Controller,” which is an ode to ex and/or significant others the world over while “POMONA (Shit Happens)”, which sounds like every bands worst nightmare come to life is an unhinged offering of pure KAOS. The true fury of this album doesn't stop, from beginning to end.
