VAMPS @ The Marquee Theater, Tempe AZ

I’m going to keep this review short and sweet.

This may be more of a rant. When I learned VAMPS was coming to the states I was pretty damn stoked and looked forward to covering them. I’d heard from others that they put on a very animated and theatrical show. This show was nothing like I had heard but Vamps did put on a stellar show to a less than stellar crowd at The Marquee Theater on May 25th 2017. I say less than stellar crowd as the venue was about 1/4th full thanks in part to a combination of high school and college graduations and a sold out Highly Suspect show at another venue in town. But none the less, it was awesome to see the band here in AZ and had the light guy not been sitting on his phone and actually put some front lighting on the band, I’d have some actual photos posted. But until I can take the extra time to try to make something out of nothing, there will be none. Thanks Marquee Theater. Another amazing job at creating silhouettes on stage as usual. I haven’t confirmed whether or not this was something the band asked for but in my experience with this venue, 9 times out of 10 it’s not. And I can’t see for the life of me why a band would come half way across the globe to play shoes in intimate venues to not be seen by their fans.

Would I see them again? Hell yes! VAMPS is an amazing band and deserves far more recognition than they get in the states. But I would love to see them tour again with their own light show so that we can actually see them on stage and so as photographers we can actually photograph them.
